How to Print Personal Checks at Home: A Practical Guide
Learn what you need, how to set up a personal check, and what to review before printing your first payment.
What you need before you start
Printing a personal check at home begins with accurate bank details, a suitable template, compatible check stock, and a reliable printer. Gather your routing number, account number, name, address, and the payment information before opening the check editor.
Use a trusted device and private network whenever you work with financial information. Keep unused check stock and printed checks in a secure location.
- Accurate routing and account information
- Compatible blank or pre-printed check stock
- A standard inkjet or laser printer
- The payee, amount, date, and memo
Build and review the check
Choose a personal template, add your bank information, select or create the payee, and enter the payment details. Use the preview to confirm spelling, amount, date, check number, and alignment before generating the final file.
For a first print, test the layout on plain paper and compare it with your check stock. This helps catch orientation or scaling issues without wasting security paper.
Print with the right settings
Use actual size or 100% scale unless your check stock instructions specify otherwise. Disable options such as fit to page when they change field placement. Load the stock in the correct orientation and print one check before producing more.
- Confirm paper orientation
- Print at actual size
- Inspect field and MICR alignment
- Keep a record of the issued check
